“The inspiration came directly from Miami itself—its vibrant energy, diverse architecture, and rich cultural tapestry. Miami is a city that’s alive with contrasts, and I wanted to capture that dynamic spirit in my work. Mayaimi Reflections uses bold, tropical colors like electric blues, fiery oranges, and lush greens to mirror the city’s lively environment. Through the fusion of geometric shapes and fractured forms, I sought to portray the multifaceted essence of Miami, where art, culture, and vitality converge in a symphony of shape and color.

A particularly defining moment was walking through Little Havana. The colorful street murals, the sounds of music, and the fusion of cultures all created this sensory overload that felt like stepping into a living, breathing canvas. That experience became the foundation for the piece.”

How do urban environments influence your creative process and themes?

“Miami’s energy is unlike any other place, and it seeps into everything I create. The street art in Wynwood, the rhythms of Latin music, and the blend of cultures from across the globe are all part of my artistic DNA. Miami inspires me to push boundaries in my work, combining styles like Cubism and abstraction to reflect the city’s diversity and vibrancy. It’s an urban environment that constantly fuels creativity.”

What was the journey of creating this piece like?

“Creating Mayaimi Reflections was an exhilarating and challenging process. I started by immersing myself in the colors and energy of Miami—thinking about street art, the city’s constant pulse, and the way cultures intersect here. I blended Cubism with abstract and surreal elements to reflect the complexity of the city’s personality.

The most challenging part was finding the balance between chaos and harmony. Miami’s energy can be overwhelming, and I wanted the piece to reflect that without losing cohesion. Working with intricate details, especially on a three-dimensional surface, tested my patience and pushed my techniques to new levels.

The most rewarding moment came when I stepped back and saw how the elements came together to embody Miami’s energy. It was like the city had come to life on the canvas.”

Are there specific details in your work that align with the spirit of the 2.5 Urban Initiative?

“Absolutely. The 2.5 Urban Initiative is about celebrating urban culture and the transformative power of city life, and I’ve woven those themes into my work. One key element is the use of bold, graffiti-inspired forms that pay homage to Miami’s street art scene. These layered shapes reflect how urban culture is built on the contributions and energy of diverse communities.”

How has your art evolved, and what does this piece reflect about your growth as an artist?

“My art has evolved significantly over the years. Early on, I focused on mastering techniques and experimenting with form. But over time, I’ve become more daring, merging Cubism, abstraction, and surrealism in ways that challenge conventional boundaries.

This piece reflects my growth in its ambitious approach to color, composition, and concept. It’s a culmination of everything I’ve learned—pushing beyond the two-dimensional into multidimensional expressions that combine layers of meaning and technique.”

What advice would you give to emerging artists, especially those exploring urban themes?

“Don’t be afraid to take risks and experiment. The art world can feel intimidating, but your voice is unique, and it’s worth exploring. Pushing boundaries will help you stand out. Keep challenging yourself, and don’t settle for what feels safe or familiar. Allow your work to be a testament to your growth.

Another crucial lesson is to embrace failure as part of the creative process. It’s easy to feel discouraged when a piece doesn’t turn out as planned, but those ‘mistakes’ often lead to your best work. Innovation happens when you’re willing to mess up and try again.”

What’s next for you after this project?

“I’m excited to dive into new materials and ideas. One concept I’m particularly eager to explore is working with light concrete in my sculptures. I’ve always enjoyed experimenting with textures and forms, and light concrete offers unique opportunities to play with balance and weight in ways I haven’t before. It’s both a technical and creative challenge, and I can’t wait to see where it leads me.”
