Director Spotlight: Margaret Emdal

Born in Stranda, Norway, Margaret Emdal’s career spans decades as a graphic designer, animation artist, and educator. Currently based in Oslo, she works as an independent filmmaker, creating deeply evocative animated works. Her films include Thunderstory (2023), The Last Day (2019), Red & Silver (2016), Heartattack (1992), and Tango Caramba (1997).

Director’s Statement

“I spent a long time on this project, a long time without knowing if the project would ever succeed. It is not an easy theme to deal with. I still hope that I managed to make a film that tells something about human cruelty.”
