Director: Samantha Vassor
Bio:
Samantha Vassor is a Haitian-Filipina CGI artist and designer based in Miami, Florida. With a background in interdisciplinary sculpture and digital fabrication technologies, Vassor has developed her practice towards using 3D art as a medium for conveying concepts of intangibilities of cultural diaspora, relativities of time and personal nostalgia, as well as how inherited traditions and histories permeate a contemporary digital age. Vassor uses 3D animation software as a means of archiving her Afro-Caribbean/ South East Asian heritage, as well as finding new ways of reflecting on generational knowledge and personal identity. With a rapidly growing digital industry, and a noticeable learning curve for Black and Latine communities, Vassor has dedicated time in her practice towards workshops, resource platforms, public asset libraries, and community events towards creating means of accessibility and representation for 3D art in her communities.
Vassor holds a BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has exhibited her work in the annual Asian American International Film Festival, the Chroma Art Film Festival, Dateagle ‘Control the Virus Vol 03’, ARTSTHREAD x ID Magazine Global Graduate Show Shortlist, and Serving the People’s BFA Show 2020. Completed residencies include the Digital Artist Residency, Remote; Unravel the Code, Rotterdam Netherlands. Selected publications include Refinery 29’s AAPI Month ‘ Not Your Token Asian’: How 4 AAPI Artists are Redefining the American Dream. Vassor also practices as a CGI Designer and Art Director with clients and experiences including Intuit Mailchimp, VinePair, Kin Euphorics, Refinery 29, Spectacles by Snap Inc., HERVISIONS, Google Summer of Code, & Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami.
