Director Statement
A collaborative audiovisual work by Roz Yuen and Sydney Mills, Insatiable Human explores modes of consumption, bodily plasticity and aesthetics of the self. In an era in which the synthetic and organic are becoming more entwined, it has become common for people to undergo surgery and procedures to look more like their digitally augmented selves. This evolution of human behavior begs the question, how does blurring the lines between our hyper-curated digital identities and the imperfections of our physical bodies impact our understanding of corporeal authenticity within late-stage capitalism? How will willfully ignoring the dissociative ramifications of altering our bodies in pursuit of digitalized perfection made flesh affect our ability to maintain a traditional sense of mortality or is this the beginning humanity’s next evolutionary stage?

Film: GLOVE FLAVORED ruminates on the conflicting emotions of the sublime and the grotesque in relation to moments of medical intervention. Latex gloves symbolizing both protection and detachment, and the unidentified viscera, representing both the fragility and resilience of the human body, create a visual tension that reflects on the complexities of our relationship to medical spaces and procedures.
