Bio: The moving images from “Vida” depict the relationships between earth, water, flora, and fauna in celebration of our living planet. This stop motion animation was made from a series of paintings that were cut and assembled in order to create organic shapes that represent the fragile nature of the cycle of life. This animation goes through various phases, evoking different stages in the cycle of creation and destruction.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Alejandra Abad is an interdisciplinary visual artist and educator based in Denver, Colorado. Her style is informed by architectural studies at Florida Atlantic University, Film/Video/New Media/Animation at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Integrated Media Art Practices at The University of Colorado.
Her work refers to memories of her own upbringing while visually depicting the transformations that come with migration and hybrid identity. Her animations and moving images feature fragmentation, folklore, and mythology. Her playful storytelling is captured in various media that she often transforms into animations and installations through abstraction and light.
