Director: David Bennett
Film: Machines of Artificial Industry // Primitive Dawn for Arbitrary Tools
Bio: An abstract narrative in two segments, consisting of:
• Machines of Artificial Industry •
A reflection on the transformative influence of labor and automation in the era of hypothetical machinery. Featuring a blend of Al generated illustrations, hardware-based video synthesis, and motion graphics characterized by vibrant and bold colors in an 8-bit pixelated style against a color cycling backdrop. Depicting machinery, urban maps, street art graffiti, futuristic cityscapes and abstract human heads formed by colorful shapes, lines, pipes, cables, and electronic components. This imagery evokes a playful cartoon-like aesthetic reminiscent of retro video game graphics.
• Primitive Dawn for Arbitrary Tools •
A mediation on things not fully understood. This abstract digital collage of shadowy text, paper and unidentifiable tools, features a blend of Al generated illustrations, hardware-based video synthesis, and motion graphics.
These works are a HYBRID MIX blending Text-to-Image Al, animation and motion graphics, video synthesis, and audio synthesis. Machines of Artificial Industry (1:20); Primitive Dawn for Arbitrary Tools (5:30).
As a digital artist, motion designer, and creative director, David Bennett employs a diverse set of skills and interests in his work. Drawn to the immediacy and impermanence of the moving image, his work explores hypersaturated visuals that oscillate between abstract and figurative digitized glimpses of daily life and random ephemera. Featuring the deliberate use of pattern, color, and rhythm along with generative, automatic, and procedural techniques, the works themselves are frequently deconstructed and recycled as digital seeds for subsequent iteration. Music is often an inspiration and guiding force that drives the rhythmic and sequencing decisions. He lives and works in Nashville, Tennessee.
