“Candy Star”
Director: Richard Garet
Film: Candy Star
Bio: Richard Garet’s “Candy Star” piece emerges from his series titled “Frame Compositions,” which emphasizes a stylistic approach to the creation process. These works focus on shape and color, insisting on nothing beyond their borders. Each piece arises from fleeting moments in a continuous stream of generative video imagery, exploring the qualities and potentials of time modulation and light emission.
The work begins with layers of color and form in a constant, non-repeating state of excited motion. From this visually overwhelming flow, Garet extracts discrete frames, which serve as the starting points for digital manipulations that become sequential, culminating in the final work.
Each frame asserts a form that threatens to overwhelm its borders. The perimeter, balanced or conflicting across strict boundaries, approaches a kind of incandescence through saturation and combination. The moving image, comprised of frame compositions, has the quality of an actual light source, bridging the worlds of reflective and emanative luminous phenomena.
Richard Garet is a contemporary multimedia artist born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1972. He holds an MFA from Bard College, NY. Garet has lived and worked in the United States since 1996. Richard Garet’s work is recognized in the context of sound and visual arts and has been exhibited in galleries and institutions globally.
