“bubble hat”
Director: Kama Ranaulo
Bio: Born in Paris and shaped by the multicultural fabrics of London and Dubai, Kama is a digital creator and filmmaker whose journey has seen her work across multiple domains. Her repertoire includes documentary and fiction filmmaking, photography, editing, scriptwriting, and art direction, honed further by an academic background in film, acting, and art history. Drawn to the enigmatic, intuited, and inexplicable, Kama’s lens gravitates towards untold stories and cultural myths, seeking to unravel the subconscious mind by capturing the raw beauty and vulnerability of the human experience. Her vision celebrates the ephemeral and spiritual nuances of existence.
Film: Through the lens of an outsider estranged from urban life, ‘Bubble Hat’ is an evocative poetry film that delves into the sense of alienation birthed from the frantic hustle of an automated, fast-paced culture. Directed by Kama Ranaulo, filmed by Zuhair Lokhandwala, and written and narrated by Maryam Imogen Ghouth, this collaborative piece was shot between the City of Dubai and the Sulphate trailhead in the United Arab Emirates. This film serves as an introspective examination of contemporary, societal constructs and the irony of how frantic consumerism and hyper-connectivity, while designed to help us cope with reality, can not only disconnect us from it but also create a sense of detachment from contemporary existence in those yearning to be fully present.
